Groups and Devices in Lumiun DNS
The Groups and Devices tool in Lumiun DNS is ideal for networks that require more specific control. With easy installation, the tool ensures more precise control over internet use, facilitating the application of security, productivity, or content filtering rules according to network needs.
Notice: The ActiveNet agent is now available for Windows. Coming soon for iOS and Linux.
In this article, we will discuss the Devices, Devices Group, DNS Forwarding, and Reports pages, with the aim of keeping you informed about how to use ActiveNet.
Devices
This page is intended for installing new devices and managing devices that are already installed. See here for instructions on how to proceed with the installation of the Lumiun Agent.
After installation, the device will be automatically added to this page, displaying the following information:
-
Device Hostname
-
IP Address
-
MAC Address
On this page, you can customize:
-
Nickname (For identification)
-
Device Group (After installation, it is automatically added to a default group defined on the Devices Group Page.)
-
Policy (Inherited from the group or enter a specific policy for the device)
-
Logs Enabled/Disabled
-
Enable or disable password protection (for uninstallation or service shutdown)
You can make bulk changes and deletions to devices, making management easier. To do this, use the checkbox on the left and then click the Bulk Actions menu.
This page also displays device status information, including:
-
Protected - Indicates that the device is communicating via API and passing through Lumiun DNS control correctly.
-
Unprotected - When the device is communicating via API, but our DNS servers have not received queries from it for at least 30 minutes.
-
Offline - This status is displayed when the device has been without API communication for more than 30 minutes.
Password Protection
It is possible to create a default password to protect the agent. After creating the password, you must select which devices will be protected by the password. The field to enable the password is available by clicking on New Device.
Under protection, the user will be asked for the password to uninstall, stop, and make changes to ActiveNet.
Devices Group
Here, you manage the groups to which your devices will belong. You can create several groups and separate them in the way you deem best for identification.
One of the groups created must be defined as default. This means that every new device that is installed will be added to this group. After installation, you can change the device's group.
Note: If you do not have a group created, when installing a device, a new default group will be created automatically.
DNS Forwarding
Available by clicking on the deployments menu, this feature is important for forwarding DNS queries related to your local domain, if you have one.
To use it, simply click on New DNS Forwarding and enter the Domain, DNS Server, and groups that should follow this forwarding rule.
Forwarding ensures that communication between the device and the local domain remains OK.
Reports
The reports also allow filters that use this integration. It is now possible to apply view filters by Device Groups, and specifically, Devices.
Conclusion
Simply put, you can use this feature to manage your network in a specific way, allocating certain devices to follow the defined group policy, or even applying a specific policy to the device.
The reports also adapt to the new feature, providing filters for devices or groups of devices, allowing even greater control over the network.
Lumiun DNS is constantly developing, and feedback and reports on its use help us develop features that are extremely important and relevant to Lumiun DNS users.
